Shelby participated in the Normal Parks & Rec theater program again this year. They practice all summer 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. On August 1st, they performed the musical: The Little Mermaid, Jr. There was an ensamble and some individual roles. They had to choose to try out for the ensamble or another part. Shelby picked an individual part. She ended up with Flotsam - one of Ursula's 2 eels who are sent out to capture Ariel. At first she was a little disappointed because it is an evil role and that is what her Glumpwart part was last year. Good or evil, she does a good job with whatever part they cast her with. Half way thru the summer, one of her instructors told me how great she does memorizing her lines and how good her stage presence is. They did a good job and a large crowd showed to watch. Our only complaint is it's hard to hear over the outside noise of traffic, bikes going over the bridge on Constitution Trail and the annoying cicada bugs singing away. I'm not sure why they don't mic some of the lead roles. But, they didn't ask for my evaluation. Here are some pics.
