My Girl So Not Like Me

After church today, the girls and I dined at the usual Taco Bell and then made a stop or two.  On the way home we made the final pit stop at the library to return some books and pick up a few more.  Wouldn't you know they had to advertise the afternoon activity right where we had to go to get up to the Children's Department.  What would that be, you ask?  Why wouldn't it be Snakes Alive!  And why wouldn't my amphibian loving daughter see it?  We did our thing and checked out our books.  She was not happy when I told her I wanted no part of seeing a bunch of snakes.  Then I saw an advertisement that said you could enjoy them from "near or far".  So I made her promise if I took her down to it that she could never call me a mean mom again.  Of course she agreed and of course I know that she will never keep her end of the bargain.  The first thing she did was pet a baby alligator.  I got close enough to that to take her picture.
Thankfully this event was an open house.  The snakes did not come out of their cages and if you wanted to see them you looked and left.  Shelby took some pictures on her ipod but they will not be making an appearance on my blog!  Morgan did not pet the alligator but she did go through the snake line with Shelby.  Oh, Shelby girl, I am so glad you are not a big chicken like your mother!
PS -  I know I have a lot of catching up to do on here.

Silly Sisters via Email

While Nate and I were in Oklahoma, the girls did most of their communicating with us via email.  It was fun to read their crazy minds through the computer.  I saved their comments for a blog post so you readers could enjoy them too.  Thoughts from 2 crazy littles:

Dear mommy and daddy, i almost read a whole shel silverstein book and i want to read u a couple poems from the book  Falling up. we do not have that one at home it is NEENAW,S book. The first one is called
DANCIN' IN THE RAIN                                 SNOWBALL TATTOOIN' RUTH
(BUT THE WORD SNOWBALL
IS FOR THE NEXT POEM)
THAT WAS A WARNING!!

So what if it drizzles                                             I made my self a snowball                Collers are choking,
And dribbles and drips?                                        As perfect as could be.                    Pants are expensive,
I'll splash in the garden,                                            I thougt I'd keep it as a pet            Jakets are are itchy and hot,
I'll dance on the roof.                                                And let it sleep with me.                So tattooin' Ruth tattooed me a suit.
Let it rain on my skin,                                                I made it some pajamas                 Now folks think I'm dressed-
It can't get in- And a pillow for its head.                When I'm not.
I'm water proof. Then last night it ran away,
But first- it wet the bed.
I'm going to stop there I will type more to u later some other time but NEENAW is going to go to the nursing home to read at 10 0' clock so me and shelby are going to Ally's house till 11 0'clock and Ally is sitting here next to me. Because she came to nonny's house to pick us up.
SINCERELY MORGAN LOVE U MORGAN
(Note:  I have no idea how those lines go in the poem.  That is how she typed them and then the blog format automatically centers everything.  Nonny Mary did tell me she started reading that book in the morning and read it all day).

Ello Govnar's!!!
I'm sure u already know who this is but I'll just tell u anyway... Reptile Lover#1, Dinosaur Lover #1, Yoshi Lover#1, Turtle Lover#1 (yes that is a new one), Frog Lover#1, and all of the above. Ok, it's Shelby.
Anyways, it's been a lot of fun out here so far. When we went fishing u know we have 2 get worms right? Well, Morgan searched 4 them, Nee-Naw scooped up the dirt, and my favorite thing.... I got to pick the worms up and put them in the thing-a-magigger! Then we went fishing and got some good luck and some bad luck.
The good luck was we caught at least more than one fish! And the bad news, we didn't fish very long because the fishes kept swallowing the hooks. There was this one fish that was REALLY STUBBORN. He swallowed that hook like an Alligator in a swamp watching a little bunny rabbit prancing around in a little grassy area. Suddenly, SNAP!!! the alligator bites your head off. Understand?
Me and Jaws(I changed his name 2 Jumbo Jaws) are having the BEST TIME.
Email me back as soon as u get this.
             Love, Reptile Lover#1

P.S I had a lot of fun typing this letter!!!
(Note:  if you are wondering who Jaws is, it is the life size pillow of an alligator that daddy just couldn't say NO to.  I.HATE.IT).  (Note 2:  think British accent when you read Ello Govnars).

Ello govnar!
This is your crazy 9 year old daughter AKA Reptile Lover#1
Things have been great around here. Pretty much the same things that
go around at home: Nee-Naw's being the same old funny Nee-Naw, and friends
are friends, and Morgan's being the same old pest she always is. But, SOME
things are different. Like, Ally isn't as much fun after she graduated.
Nee-Naw had 2 go 2 the nursing home 2 read 2 the elderly folks and we had 2
stay with Ally. She wouldn't jump on the trampoline with us, and she
wouldn't play with the puppies with us, and pretty much everything that I
just typed. Then Duh-Duh-Duuh-DUNNN!!!! We tried these REALLY AWESOME Bacon
Strips. Not the dog type the human type. It's basically just crispy bacon
and beef jerky together and tastes JUST LIKE bacon!!!
That's pretty much all I got so far so email me back when u get this.
LoVe ShElBy
P.S U can get those Bacon strips at Wal-Mart
P.P.S We watched a Harry Potter movie last night. It was awesome!!!
P.P.P.S I'm really disappointed when you don't let me like something that
really interests me (sad face)
(Note:  Regarding the P.P.P.S - I haven't allowed her to read the Harry Potter books or watch the movies.  I'm guessing she failed to share that information with Nonny).

In response to an email from her dad:

Thanks daddy! Good luck tonight!
Love u Shelby
P.S Tell mommy about the Harry potter and that I'm sad when u won't let me like something(u know)
P.P.S I DO LOVE BACON (DROOOL)

Howdy Partner! This is your long lost daughter Kenny... Ok, fine it's Shelby.
Did u get my last email? Little Tyler's here visiting with Nee-Naw and us while his parents go run errands. I miss u and Daddy SOOO MUCH!!!
Things have been going good around here basic stuff, and I'm ALWAYS bored. How is it in Oklahoma?? Did Ashley email or text u about our report cards?
Sorry I am probably overwhelming u, it's that I just have a lot on my mind. I'll end here with one more question...Did u get the email about the Harry Potter and the thing about not letting me not like things that interest me, 4 example Harry Potter. Could u think about it. It's actually really interesting and it teaches children of all ages 2 do good things with their life's.
LoVe sHeLbY
*********************************************************************************
Okie Dokie... The Harry Potter thing..... is it a yes or a no??
Love, Shelby
P.S VERY ANXIOUS
*********************************************************************************
Ok. Just to let u know I just finished watching another one. I liked it a little more than the first one, because it was freakier and Harry had to fight a HUGE Sea Serphant., then this Phoenix came in and blinded the Sea Serphant (which was kinda sad 4 me) but even though the Serphant was blind he could still hear... It's really hard 2 explain you'll just have 2 see the movie or read the books to learn more about it. It's really fascinating!!! (Gasp, Gasp, Gasp,) Well... Like u said we'll talk later.
Anyways.. So yah.  Beautiful day isn't it chap? Carry on...
Love u Shelby

Did u get the email about the rabbit? shelby is calling u now

They spent Saturday until Wednesday morning with Nonny Mary & Papa Jay (Nate's mom & step-dad).  On Wednesday afternoon they headed across town to Papa Russell & Nonny Martha's (Nate's dad & step-mom).  Nate and I returned home on Friday night.  As you read above, they were ready to come home.  So we headed back down I-55 to Greenville on Saturday afternoon.  We stopped by the nursing home to visit with Grandpa Bud.  We chatted with Grandma while he snoozed and talked with him quick as he woke just before we left after the girls had called more than once to see where we were at!  They were running outside before I turned the van into the driveway when we finally made it out to his dad's house.  This morning we went down the road to visit with Grandpa & Grandma Metzger before loading up and heading home.  I think the girls are glad to be back.  Shelby's softball games start tomorrow and Morgan starts practice on Tuesday.  They get this week off before theater starts next week.  After Nate & I took a nap (it is taking us longer to recover), we headed outside.  We took advantage of daddy being home and got the softball gear out.   After Shelby hit the first ball in my flower planter hanging on the garage and the second ball I thought was going to break a window, we headed down the street to Parkside to practice where we had some space and nothing to break.  Morgan pulled out a few moves with her bat that she has seen Nate's ball players do.  It was funny and maybe she pays more attention at those games than I give her credit for!
