Writing Journals Make Me Laugh

One of my favorite things about school papers are the writing journals.  These are blank slates into the minds of my little peeps and tell me so much about them.  The paper usually has a suggestion for what they are to write about.  Morgan brought home her September journal today and I have found several I want to share.  I will put the suggested topic in ALL CAPS.
I will start with the one that gave me the biggest chuckle cause it is so the truth:
WHEN I FIRST WAKE UP I either go back to sleep or I get up and go downstairs.  On weekends I usually get up and go downstairs.  On weekdays I go back to sleep.  But some days I do both.  (Notice the backward practice.  Up when don't need to be but can't get up when have to).
One that really surprised me:
I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO sky dive.  But I would be scared.  I think it would be really fun too.  But after I did it I probily (probably) would want to do it again.
About her:
WHAT I LIKE THE MOST ABOUT MYSELF IS my hair.  My mom can do a lot of things with my hair.  I like it when my mom braids my hair.  My mom can even do a braid bun.
I LOVE READING because it is really fun and you learn a lot from it.  I like reading with my family.  Before bed I always read with my mom.  When I grow up I want to be a librarian.
A couple for daddy:
I ALWAYS LAUGH WHEN my dad sometimes tells good jokes.  Sometimes they are funny.  But sometimes they aren't funny.
I WAS REALLY EMBARRASSED WHEN I was at my sisters softball game and I thought this one man was my dad.  But he wasn't.  He had a bucket of popcorn and I was reiching (reaching) for it.  And he said I don't know you and and he was pulling away.
A few for Aunt Jill:
WHEN I GROW UP, I WANT TO BE a teacher because it is so fun!  My aunt gave me a lot of school stuff because she is a teacher.  I have a toy room full of school stuff.  When I get home I am going to start again.  (Playing school).
I WANT TO LEARN ALL ABOUT cursive.  I know how to right (write) my name in cursive.  But I think my mom said they don't do cursive any more?  But if we don't my aunt can teach me. Even though she is a kindergarten teacher she can still teach me.
So you get the idea.  I can't wait to read about October!

Student Council

Meet one of the members of the Oakdale Student Council.
Shelby decided she wanted to run for a position on the council that is made up of 4th and 5th graders.  In their individual classrooms, they had to give a little speech as to why their classmates should vote for them.  Then they voted.  2 boys and 2 girls are picked from each room.  The other night I noticed about twelve small sticky notes taped in a long line down her wall.  First draft of the speech.  Last night she typed it up.  Here it is:
My name is Shelby Metzger.  I think I am capable of joining the PTO Student Council because I'm smart, I like to make people feel good about themselves.  I'm confident and responsible, I get good grades, I'm trusted and mature.  I like to participate and getting in on things.  I will try my hardest to attend all meetings and I will work hard to do my best.  Thank you and please vote 4 me!
Shelby was top vote getter in her class and her friend Teagan was runner up.  She will fill in for Shelby if she can't be at a meeting, etc.  I kind of forgot about the voting today so didn't think about it when she came out of school with one of her BFF's.  Her friend was a little down and Shelby told her mom she was upset about not making it on Student Council.  A couple minutes later Shelby dropped her backpack and said she would be right back.  She took off running back to her classroom door.  Her teacher was still standing there.  Her friend and mom left to head home.  Shelby returns looking for her and I said she left.  She then takes off running across the bridge to the back street where people park.  She never did find her so she came back.  She said she asked her teacher if she could give her friend her spot on the council in her place.  Mrs. Brigham said they couldn't do that since it was a voted for position.  Shelby stewed about it the whole way home and had tears by the time we pulled in the garage.  She ran down the block and back to run it off I guess.  I was proud of her desire to make her friend happy in what turned out to be a small life lesson no child likes to learn.

Roll Over. I'm Crowded

Just about every night, Morgan climbs into our bed.  Usually it is sometime after 2 or 3 AM.  Once in awhile, she will already be there when I come to bed.  And as she gets bigger and heavier, it is easier to be thankful for the king sized bed, scoot her over to make some room and try to go to sleep.  The other night I was sitting at my desk which sits in the room directly under hers.   It sounded like maybe she fell out of bed or at least was up and maybe using the bathroom.  Not much later, I headed up to my room.  I laughed out loud when I opened the door to this:
She couldn't have spread her arms and legs out any further if she tried.  Nothing like making yourself at home and taking over the whole bed.  This should give you a good idea of what it is like to share a bed with her.  Since I don't sleep real well to start with, I usually try to position myself with either my back to her or with my arm blocking my face from her elbows, hands or even feet.  You just never know what part of that wild body is going to jab you right where you don't want it!  Sleeping with this one is like snuggling with a porcupine.  And there are no sweet dreams.  Good night.
