Not So Funny & A Funny

The Not So Funny
As yet another storm rolls through tonight, the girls are a little on edge after hearing this morning about the damage my parents received from last night's storm that hit WI. Here is a picture of what used to be their barn. The Funny
As Morgan and I were standing watching it rain from the front door she asked, "Is there going to be a tornado tonight"? I said, "Probably not". She said, "It was a yes or no question".

Sassy Sillies

Considering my two girls can be quite the characters, you may be stuck reading a lot of blog postings about their sassy and silly remarks. Here are a couple from Miss Shelby today.

We spent Father's Day in Greenville for a gathering with Nate's mom and family to celebrate his Grandpa Bud's recent 87th birthday. Shelby nor Morgan ate all their breakfast and I told them it'd be a long wait till lunch and I didn't want to hear at 10:00 they were hungry. Of course in the car on the way down they are starving. While I am eating lunch, Shelby comes in with her plate and says she is done. All she really had to eat was part of a hot dog and some chips. As she is heading back outside I said, "That is all you are going to eat? On the way down here you were starving". And her smart remark, "That was then and this is now" and out the door she went!

On Saturday we will go to Al and Jill's to celebrate Trey's birthday. So I am kind of holding that over them for good behavior this week. Shelby did something to Morgan on the stairs as they passed so I reminded her being good included being nice to her sister. She said, "She is just a brat". I said, "Since she learns everything from you, that must mean you are a brat". She replies with, "I've got nothing to say about that"! :)

Comment Corner

I usually post the silly thoughts and comments the girls say on facebook. After the one I posted this morning, one friend asked me if I was writing these things down? She said how much her grown children enjoy hearing these things today. I'm not very good about jotting such things on paper even though I own a book filled with blank pages called, "The Silly Things My Tot Says". Also, not all my blog readers are on facebook and the reality of it is, someday this blog may be the closest thing the girls have to scrapbooks! So, I am going to try to post some sillies as I hear them. Here is the latest.
This morning Morgan went up to her room to get her baby Natalie. When she brought her down to the living room she headed to the stroller that had the infant seat in it. After she put her in there she says, "I need to put her in here because it is better for my body". I added to my facebook comment that this girl will someday either have no kids or a billion!
Yesterday, one of Nate's coaches stopped by here to pick up a radar gun. When he rang the doorbell Morgan thought Coach Knox was daddy. Then she realized it wasn't and yelled, "It's Knox"! We chatted with Knox (that is what the girls call him) at the door for a bit. When he left and I shut the door Shelby says, "He's so adorable".
Unfortunately I can not convey the tone of voice, the facial expressions or the hand motions (Morgan especially does this) that goes along with these comments. I am thankful that I am able to be present day after day to see the silly side of my girls.

New Photos

I finally got the girls pictures taken. I was happy with the end result. Shelby cooperated fully and repeated every silly thing the lady asked her to say. Chatty Cathy on the other hand would not say anything and her busy little tongue tried to make an appearance. Luckily the photographer saw that and got her to stick it back in her mouth. Here are a few of my favs. Sorry for the ones that are sideways. I can't change them on the CD.

A Little Comparison

Around the time of the girls' birthdays, I like to dig out some old pictures of myself at the same age (specifically Morgan). Morgan seems to look a lot more like me than Shelby does as she resembles more of her dad. Although, it is interesting that many who see the two girls together think they look quite a bit alike. I finally found the software to hook up the scanner we have had for about 5 years so I could scan the ancient pics of me on my 4th birthday. I selected the picture of my pancake breakfast to go with the girls and their pancake pictures. I added the one of me on my new trike because the expression on my face is one that I often see on Morgan's. I don't have any pictures of Nate when he was six so I can't post a true comparison for Shelby.
Coming soon will be a posting from the big birthday party over Memorial Day weekend. I have been working on editing all the pictures we had from all the fun. Also, I finally have an appointment setup for getting their annual pictures taken on Friday. That basement project and the birthday party sucked out all my time, energy and money so we are a little behind with new pics. I will post those when I can.

Shelby's Kindergarten Graduation!

Thursday, May 27, 2010. It's hard to believe Shelby's first year of school is over! I think she had a blast in kindergarten and only complained of going to school a few mornings the entire year. Mrs. Ghrist was a great teacher who helped her love school and learning new things. Her class was blessed with 2 great teachers as Mrs. Lowe stepped in as the substitute when Mrs. Ghrist had her baby girl the third week of school. It was fun to see the reaction of the entire class the last week of school when Mrs. Lowe returned to sub for another K class. She came out to the class line and greeted each student by name. They all jumped up and down and squealed and gave her lots of hugs. Shelby went to school knowing one other girl in her class and came out having made lots of new friends - girls and boys, kindergartners and older. Almost every day when I picked her up from school she had something to say that either started with, "There's this boy" or "There are these 3 boys". I think she spent a lot of time chasing them around the playground. She can be very competitive and boys seem to be the challenge she is looking for. She liked math (for whatever reason) and she did a great job drawing things in art. She is a very neat printer and is interested in writing cursive. Most of all, Shelby really did a great job learning to read in K. Prior to that she pretty much memorized books and could read them based on the pictures. The reading level goal for the end of K is level D. At the time of her spring progress report she was reading at level E so she had passed that goal. At the end of the year on her report card Mrs. Ghrist noted she was reading at level G. She had told me that the goal for the end of first grade is level I so Shelby is well on her way!
On the last day of school the students went for 1 hour. Mrs. Ghrist had prepared a small program in the room before presenting each student with a certificate of completion. She played graduation music and each time she presented a graduate the rest of the students responded with "Yesssss". After the program they had a little bit of time for one last chance of playground fun.
Here are a few pics from the big day. Of course my camera would not work so these are all with my cell phone so not real clear or close......

Here are pictures of Shelby on the first day and last day of school. Not sure how much change can be noticed, but one thing was consistent throughout the year. I could probably count on both hands the number of days she did not wear some type of headband in her hair!

I hope each year she continues to love school and each teacher she is placed with. 2009-2010 Kindergarten at Oakdale Elementary has given her a great start!
